Protest & Parade for the Pups This Sat, Longmont

Starting at noon, ending at 3:00, RMAD will hold a peaceful, respectful protest outside of Pet Spot. We MIGHT have a 1:30 holiday parade of dogs and their companions, depending on how things are going. We’ll gather for coffee at a dog-friendly house immediately following the event.
PLEASE COME!
Note: We will be there regardless of the weather BUT use your judgment to determine whether your dog will be comfortable in the cold weather and being next to traffic. Any doubts, leave your buddy at home.
Though signs will be available, participants are encouraged to bring their own. Ideas for signs include:
“Be Humane! Get your dog at the Longmont Humane Society!”
”Be Cool, Get a Pound Dog!”
“Have a Heart, Adopt!”
“Pet Spot’s BBB rating is an F! Ask me why!”
“Adoption Saves Lives”
“This Store Supports Puppy Mills”
The co-owner of the Pet Spot was charged in June with 34 counts of animal cruelty after police officers found puppies crammed into backroom kennels. Pet Spot’s Better Business Bureau rating is “F,” the lowest rating given.
Every year nearly 4 million dogs and cats are killed in the United States because no one adopted them. Buying a pet shop dog essentially means that an adoptable shelter dog will die. Reputable breeders do not sell to pet shops. The dogs in a pet shop typically come from puppy mills, which are industrial breeding facilities. Puppies are treated like products and breeding dogs endure miserable lives, confined to cages.
This peaceful event is part of a nationwide day of protest sponsored by Companion Animal Protection Society. Similar protests are occurring in nineteen other US cities.
There is a lot of work to do to protect dogs and puppies.
Report: Our first WatchDog meeting. Seven people met in Longmont last Sunday to share ideas and tactics on how to best help RMAD WatchDog protect dogs and puppies. We will be focusing on pet stores, especially working on legal enforcement and looking to the legislature to pass better statutes.
Sign up for HSUS’s lobbying.Think only professional lobbyists can lobby? Think again! The Humane Society of the United States invites you to participate in the Colorado Humane Lobby Day in Denver to make a tremendous difference for animals. In 2009, HSUS will focus on getting puppy mill legislation passed, so come if you can! Click here for more info and to RSVP.
Urge Petland to stop selling puppy mill puppies. HSUS’s eight-month investigation reveals that many stores across the country are marketing puppy mill puppies to unsuspecting consumers. Send a message, click here.

Centennial Coyote Update
Thanks to all of you who emailed and appeared at the Centennial City Council. At the meeting on Monday the Council decided to delay a decision and take a stakeholders approach. Pro-coyote folks will be included, thanks at least in part to your help.

I will not eat anything that walks, runs, skips, hops or crawls. God knows that I've crawled on occasion, and I'm glad that no one ate me.
