RMAD WishList

Do you have some things lying around you don't need anymore? We have a wish list (http://rmad.org/wishlist.html)! If you can donate any of those items, we'll put em to good use for the animals!

Please contact the RMAD office (office@rmad.org) if you can help.

Dining out Day Thanks!

Rocky Mountain Animal Defense express our gratitude to Dan Landes and the Watercourse crew for hosting RMAD's second annual Dining Out Day.

We thank Dan Hanley for putting his time and heart into the effort, and we thank the volunteers and supporters who made this fundraiser a tremendous success.

The event raised more than $2000 to support RMAD's efforts on behalf of our animal friends.

Business Opportunity

From our Friend Dave Hatch, please contact him if you're interested:

RMAD folks (and others; feel free to cross-post),

I'd like to find a person or couple for an interesting business/career situation. I have a beautiful house up in Indian Hills (near Evergreen) and would like to make it into a socially-conscious (incl vegan) special events/ retreat center. I need a person or couple to live on-site, set up a special events business and then manage it. One person could handle the job I think, though obviously two could make it easier than one. Without going into too much detail, the person/people need to be really socially conscious, have a solid business background, be exceptionally good at working with people and be very well-organized. Special events experience would obviously be a plus as well.

The pay will be negotiable but would include getting to live in a home with views to die for and the chance to make the world a better place. The only downside (though its a plus for many) is that it's not in a neighborhood, per se, so it's probably not the right situation for someone with kids. I'd live there myself and do this, but (a) my 6 yr old would be unhappy living there, and (b) I've got too much other stuff going on.

Let me know. Write back and I'll give you more info and send you some pictures. I'd like to get this whole gig going sooner rather than later. March would be a good time to start, for example. Feel free to pass this on to someone you know who would love to do something like this.

Thanks,

David Hatch

p.s. Trust me on the 'views to die for'. It's quite remarkable.

SpeakUp!

(From Matt Bear, please contact him for more info)

A special treat at our TruthSayers SpeakUp:
Monday February 7 @ 7pm
Solstice Institute, Skylight Room
302 Pearl Street, Boulder

We'll be doing things a little differently on Monday, so I'd like to invite everyone to come on down. RSVP to me, mattbear@NEAforever.org, if you're not already in our regular TruthSayers group and would like to join us. We have room for about 10 extra people.

Rather than our regular SpeakUp, we'll be hearing from Markus Stobbs who has generously agreed to lead a session at our SpeakUp on Nonviolent Communication (Thank you, Markus!). Nonviolent Communication keeps popping up all over the place in the progressive movements. I think you'll
find it interesting and useful as animal advocates to get your toes wet in the basics.

We'll also work on a couple short and simple things to make us better communicators, but first Markus will lead us. Please read through the following paragraph/description Markus was kind enough to present.

"Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a way of speaking that encourages the peaceful resolution of differences. Developed by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D., it is a systematic approach of putting the principles of nonviolence into action by identifying shared values and needs, and focusing on
cooperation rather than aggression. NVC is about listening deeply and speaking the truth in ways that lead to mutual understanding. It is equally applicable to one's personal life, interpersonal relationships, and local, national and international issues. In this session, led by Markus Stobbs, you will get an introduction to how you can put NVC into practice in your own life to create more satisfying personal connections and build coalitions and cooperative outcomes in your activism."

You can learn more about Nonviolent Communication at
